School Curriculum
‘Start Right’
This is part of our school’s outreach work working with parents and children from
0 to 3 years old. ‘Start Right’ is supported by FAST and takes place on one morning per week, taking up to 10 parents and children.
Foundation Stage Class
This is for our Nursery and Reception children aged 3 to 5 years old and is organised in a large, stimulating classroom and outdoor play area. The Foundation Stage curriculum is fully implemented and consists of ‘Early Learning Goals’. It prepares the children for the National Curriculum which begins in Year 1. We recognise that parents are the child’s first educators. Parental partnership is an essential element of the education process.
Key Stage 1
Children based here are in Years 1 and 2 and follow the National Curriculum. In Year 2 pupils are assessed in line with Government requirements.
Key Stage 2
A wide and varied curriculum is offered to our pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. In
Year 6 transition arrangements are made for pupils transferring to their secondary school.
Assemblies and Religious Education
Trinity St. Peter’s is a Church of England School and upholds the Church’s beliefs by direct teaching and also by example. The way we experience life in school is a living example of what we believe. Our planning is based on the Diocesan R.E. Scheme of Work.
We have regular whole school assemblies as follow:
-
Wednesday mornings at 9.05 a.m.
-
Friday afternoons at 2.40 p.m.
-
Thursday mornings (as required for Class presentation assemblies) starting at 9.05 a.m.
Parents / carers are invited to attend each of these Assemblies.
We also have a regular Church Eucharist Service held once every term as well as Harvest and Christmas celebrations.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education lessons.
The Governors have decided that the teaching of sex education will not form part of the school curriculum.
Special Educational Needs
At Trinity St. Peter’s School children with special educational needs have access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
All staff take responsibility to meet the needs of the children in their class. They take into account the specific requirements of the children concerned through a differentiated approach.
A pupil is considered to have a Special Educational Need if he or she is experiencing greater difficulty in learning compared to the rest of the pupils within the same age group. Children also fit into this category if they have a disability that prevents or hinders them from taking part in everyday activities. The school has a detailed SEN Policy which outlines our commitment to fully include all children.
Gifted and Talented
We recognise the abilities of these pupils, whether it be academic, physical or creative and cater for their needs.
P.E.
P.E. is part of every child’s entitlement and it is essential that they wear the appropriate clothing.
Some KS2 classes go swimming and the children must wear suitable swimming costumes.
The children need to bring their kit into school whenever they need it and take it home regularly to be washed.
If, for any reason, your child cannot take part in P.E., Games or Swimming, it is essential that you inform the class teacher by letter. Please remember that it is a legal requirement for children to access the Physical Education curriculum.
Educational Trips
During the year a variety of Educational Trips are organised. These are of a huge benefit, greatly enhancing the children’s learning. Parents are requested to make financial contributions to pay for these trips as this is the only way we can finance them.
Extra Curricular Clubs
Children are offered as broad a range of extra curricular activities as possible. This enables them to take advantage of the staff’s generosity with their time and enables children to develop individual talents.
Most of the extra curricular clubs have now been accredited by the Children’s University and pupils can gain credits by regular attendance which allows them to graduate as a member of the Children’s University.
Some examples of our extra curricular clubs are:
-
Football
-
Netball
-
Hockey
-
Dance
-
Guitar
-
Maths
-
Judo
-
Athletics
Partnership with Parents
At Trinity St. Peter’s we have a strong belief in working closely with parents. This benefits your child’s work and their life in school generally.
If a problem arises with anything in school we work with parents to find a solution and encourage parents to talk to the school about any problems that they may have.
We have also been organising Parents’ Courses for some years now. These courses are organised in particular with FAST and Southport College. The courses are held in school at no cost to parents and often lead to accreditation and certificates.
