Useful Information

Playground Supervision

A member of staff will be available on playground duty to supervise the children from 8.40 a.m. to the start of School at 8.50 a.m. Before this time your child is your responsibility and children should not be dropped off at School early without being supervised by a parent or guardian.

Punctuality and Attendance

We place a high value on good punctuality and attendance, both of which are monitored on a daily basis.

School attendance is subject to Education Law and it is the legal responsibility of parents to ensure that their child attends school.

The School expects that all parents will support their children in being punctual and attending regularly.

Parents are not entitled to take their child out of school for a family holiday during term time. If there is no alternative, however, permission may be granted for a limited period at the Headteacher’s discretion.A holiday form must be completed which may be obtained from the School Office.

Absences

If your child is absent, please make sure you inform school by telephone call in the first instance followed by confirmation in writing. Any absences without explanation will be followed up by a telephone call after 9.30 on the first day of absence. Any absences still without explanation will be classed as unauthorised.

If your child arrives late, they will receive a ‘late’ mark. These will be noted on your child’s annual school report. Children who are persistently absent or late will be referred to the Educational Welfare Officer and a home visit may be necessary.

If your child arrives at school after 10.00 a.m. with no official reason given, they will receive an absence mark as regulations state that a pupil must complete ⅔ of a session to be considered present.

Behaviour Policy

We have a positive discipline policy at Trinity St. Peter’s which encourages each pupil to accept responsibility for his/her own behaviour. Achievements are rewarded through a variety of reward systems, some of which are devised by the children themselves, and have individual and group rewards.

At all times Trinity St. Peter’s promotes a positive ethos and encourages self-discipline and respect for all. However, at times, situations may occur which need remedial action. If a child behaves in such a way that disrupts the rest of the class, he/she may be removed to somewhere else to work. If, despite interventions, the child continues to cause disruption then he/she will lose privileges such as playtime or free choice activities.

Parents/carers will immediately be notified of any significant behaviour problem and, if poor behaviour continues, parents will be asked to work with the school so that the problem can be resolved.

Illness

In the event of your child becoming ill at school, we will telephone one of the emergency contact numbers you have supplied to arrange for the child to be taken home, if that is necessary.

We are not allowed to administer medication in school. If your child is ill and is taking antibiotics, the child should be kept at home until the course of medication has been completed. If, in the extreme circumstances that your child needs to take medication whilst they are in school, we would have no objection to a family member coming into school at lunchtime to administer the medication.

After contagious diseases such as chickenpox or measles, please check with your Doctor before sending your child back to school.

The school keeps a record of pupils who require regular medications such as inhalers for asthma.

Valuables

No jewellery may be worn in school as it is potentially unsafe. Studs, one per ear, may be worn in pierced ears but not sleepers or hoops. Watches may be worn by children in school but the children must accept responsibility for them. Pupils are not allowed mobile phones in school. At certain times of the year toys may be allowed in school, e.g. at Christmas parties, but once again these are sent in at your own risk.

Accidents can happen in school and whilst staff do their best to ensure the safety of children’s personal property, we cannot be held responsible if something is dropped or accidentally broken in school.

Personal Appearance

We do not allow children to wear nail varnish in school and expect that they take a pride in their appearance, conforming to the high standards set by the school and supporting the reasons for having a school uniform.

Parents’ Evenings

Parents / carers will be given a chance to talk to their child’s class teacher during Open Evenings and receive an up to date report on their child’s progress during Open Week, one in October and one in March each year. There will also be an Open Afternoon at the end of the Summer Term.

If you need to speak with your child’s class teacher at any other time, please make an appointment to see them after school.
